Over the last two weeks, 人文 have been fortunate to have glorious weather for their 7年 and 8 visits, which support and extend the work undertaken in School.
History have taken 7年 to Portchester Castle, to complement their work on the Middle Ages, and in a combined visit with RE, went to Southampton – with the 历史 element of the visit being a trip to SeaCity Museum, to investigate the Titanic, as a complement to work on the Industrial Revolution
地理 have taken 7年 to Arundel, to practice fieldwork skills such as a field sketches and land use surveys and to investigate land use in Arundel and how the settlement has changed over time. A new trip for 8年 was to West Wittering Beach and East Head as part of their unit of work on coasts. Pupils worked with Harbour Conservancy staff to develop their understanding of the coastal environment and its management. 学生们 learnt a range of fieldwork skills using specialist equipment to investigate sand dune succession and ended the day recreating what they had learnt in the form of a sand sculpture.
RE accompanied 8年 on visits to the Sikh Gurdwara or Hindu Mandir in Southampton. Visits to these sites complement work done more widely in RE and provide a framework for aspects of the work to be done at GCSE. We also consider this an essential part of our school having an outward looking Christian ethos, where pupils grow in their respect and understanding of difference. We are particularly grateful to the volunteers who warmly welcomed and freely hosted us at the places of worship.
Thanks must also go to the staff involved in organising and accompanying these visits, which allowed pupils to extend their learning beyond the classroom.
